1. Marinera festival
It is a Peruvian cultural event that takes place every January in the city of Trujillo.
The event focuses on a marinera contest, a traditional dance of the city. The festival has parades, presentations and Peruvian Paso horse contest.
Both the Marinera as the Peruvian Paso horse have been declared cultural heritage of the nation by the Peruvian government. This festival is one of the most important and representative cultural events in the country and of the city of Trujillo, for that reason, it has been recognized by the Peruvian government as the National Capital of the Marinera by Law No. 24,447, January 24 1986.
2. Semana Jubilar de Trujillo
It takes place the first week of March. There are craft fairs, parades, seminars, contest of typical dishes, gala evening, verbena (popular party) and the International Book Fair (from 1st to March 10th in the Plazuela del Recreo)
3. International Spring Festival
It is considered the representative festival of the city , takes place between September and October of each year, the main attraction is a traditional art car parade with beauty queens from around the continent, the first festival was held in 1950; the festival activities are the coronation of the Queen of the spring, the Peruvian Paso horse contest, the parade of foreign queens and the spring parade through the main avenues of the city. The festival closes with a private party organized by the Lions Club of Trujillo.
4.Concurso Regional del Caballo de paso Peruano
The contest is organized by the Association of Breeders and Owners of Peruvian Paso Horses of La Libertad region. The competition takes place in the International Spring Festival between September and October and also in the International Festival of the Marinera in January.
5. Independence Day of Trujillo
It is celebrated on December 29 each year to commemorate the day of the proclamation of Trujillo, being official holiday on that day throughout the province. The hoisting of flags is performed in the Plaza de Armas of Trujillo and also many cultural and artistic activities in celebration. It is a representative date of citizenship.
