HUACA DEL DRAGÓN O ARCO IRIS
It's located 4 km from the city of Trujillo ( a 10 minutes ride). This adobe brick pyramid is specially important because its construction made at the beginning of the Chimú period and at the end of the Tiahuanca period between the X-XI a.C. Its estimated age is 1100 years.
The building has a quadrangular base and walls in high relief with zoomorphic and anthropomorphic designs. These designs are the reason why is called "dragon", there is a two-headed creature with uncountable feet, similar to a dragon. Researchers believe that it was ceremonial place specially built for rituals in honor of the rainbow and other natural phenomena related to fertility.
It was discovered by a treasure hunter in 1943 and was restored by the Institute of Anthropology of the National University of Trujillo, thanks to these works were discovered three exterior walls and two interior walls with magnificent mythological designs.
