TOY MUSEUM

 TOY MUSEUM

Concealed at downtown Trujillo, on the corner of Independencia and Junín Street is located the first toy museum in Latin America. Where we can found a plethora of whistles, rattles and toys of the Chimu and Chancay Culture. A dollhouse made of wood from the 50s'. A huge variety of cars, puppets and soldiers. Many huge posters about other doll and toy European museums, in which you can notice the transformation of the world during those years.

This museum is the magnificent private collection of the artist Gerardo Chavez. He went to various places in Europe where he was impressed by the historical and social value of the toy. The main reason why he created this museum is that he did not enjoyed playing with a doll during his childhood. He has the dream of sharing this museum with many people. This museum requires an special eye to see what other people cannot see. The creator of the museum saw something special in these ancient toys and the fear of losing all this cultural wealth made him want to preserve all this pieces of history.

After his journey to Europe, Gerardo returns to Trujillo in order to make his dream come to true. He bought an old manor, restored it, and founded The Toy Museum. This museum it’s not just a “toy story” but living pictures of an entire era, it’s a chronicle of a journey to our childhood. That’s why this collection is so important, it’s a collection from a time that it will never came back again. All the toys were designed in order to give joy and happiness to children; they were designed for children to play with them.

I think that there are many hidden things to see because our country has a plethora of concealed treasures that are only known by art connoisseurs and no one in the world can see, but if you open your eyes and see them you will say that this country is amazing. In order to do that we need to open people’s eyes with all the new things they are going to discover, so the point it’s just to go back to teaching people how much they can learn here.
